Mattioni, Ltd. was founded in Philadelphia in 1961 and has been engaged in the general practice of law ever since. The firm has thirty lawyers, with offices in Philadelphia, Swedesboro, New Jersey and Norristown, Pennsylvania. We practice in several groups or areas of the law, which are described below:

Business and Commercial

Our lawyers represent individuals in the formation and organization of new businesses, as well as in reorganizations of existing business entities, as corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures and other business entities. We are also active in commercial transactions representing purchasers and sellers of businesses, borrowers and lenders, and others. Our clients include small and moderate sized companies in various legal forms engaged in a broad range of commercial activities. We provide advise and counsel on all aspects of operations including such matters as leasing, selling and purchasing, environmental compliance and litigation and personal and commercial contracts. Our lawyers also work with clients in developing strategies for managing employment practices and related matters.

Maritime law

Many of our members are full Proctors in Admiralty, certified by the Maritime Law Association of the United States. We represent ship owners and operators, towage companies, ship charterers, marine terminal operators, marine insurers and underwriters, cargo owners, shippers and receivers, investors and others involved in marine enterprises in the full range of maritime ventures. Our practice in this area includes litigation as well as transactions involving all manner of maritime subjects.

Environmental

Our environmental practice group represents clients in manufacturing, shipping, real estate development, sales, finance, government, environmental clean-up and consulting, among others. It encompasses environmental compliance, enforcement, regulatory applications and permits, and other environmental problems, and a broad range of commercial/environmental litigation. The environmental group works with our business lawyers as well as outside counsel in formulating special contractual provisions for managing environmental issues in a variety of transactions. We have also provided services to many governmental units in connection with solid waste disposal, underground and above ground storage tanks, and hazardous waste disposal issues. We also provide consultation and advice to a public housing agency, including its representation concerning an extensive underground plume of petroleum hydrocarbons emanating from a refinery and a large government installation, and the interplay among state and federal environmental laws and the federal base closure act.

Our environmental lawyers have been involved in extensive litigation related to CERCLA (Superfund), RCRA, TSCA, the Tank Act, solid and hazardous waste disposal under state and federal laws, commencing and defending claims for cost recovery and to enforce compliance with such laws and regulations, and in helping to develop and overseeing the performance of remedial activities.

Litigation

Our litigation lawyers represent a broad range of clients in a variety of areas, including contract, commercial, employment, insurance, aviation, civil rights, product liability, all manner of maritime and ship-related cases, construction, personal injury including extensive experience in toxic torts claims, and environmental matters.

Zoning, Land Use and Development

The Firm represents individuals and developers regarding the use and development of real estate. This includes representing clients before planning and zoning boards and agencies and legislative bodies. Work includes changing zoning required for development to be viable, handling appeals of adverse decision and managing all aspects of the land development process.

Real Estate

The firm represents clients in the purchase, sale, leasing and other disposition of real estate, as well as in land use planning. Our lawyers assist in acquisition, development, financing, leasing and sales transactions in projects ranging from shopping centers, recreational properties, amusement parks, construction and design, mortgage and other lending arrangements, as well as zoning and land-use, tax appeals and related matters. They work with the environmental group to address environmental implications of property transfers.

Estate Planning and Administration

Attorneys in this practice group are involved in estate planning and drafting wills, trusts and other agreements designed to effectively preserve and protect assets and to dispose of property in an orderly manner consistent with our clients’ intentions. They also participate in administration of estates and trusts and manage disputes involving wills, trusts and estates.

Immigration

Our immigration lawyers represent individuals and companies, assist in arranging for lawful immigration to the U.S. as well as advice and counsel. They assist in arranging for special visas and work permits, as well as immigration law compliance to avoid the pitfalls of hiring and employing illegal aliens.

Employment

We provide a full range of services in consulting, advising and litigating employment related matters, ranging from workers and unemployment compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act, and similar claims. We also assist in negotiating employment and non-competition agreements, defense of alleged improper employment practices, discrimination, harassment, ERISA and related matters.
