DANTE MATTIONI Dante is an experienced trial lawyer who represents clients in complex matters locally, nationally and internationally, often involving highly technical factual and legal issues in the fields of admiralty and maritime law, aviation, commercial and business disputes, and major court litigation and arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Mattioni’s maritime includes such diverse matters as a ship grounding in the Strait of Magellan, with its attendant severe hull damage, cargo loss, pollution and marine general average claims; the loss of a tanker in the Delaware River by fire and explosion; tripping and sinking of a tug in San Juan, Puerto Rico and a commercial product liability claim caused by design and manufacturing defects in a supertanker engaged in the Alaskan trades. Dante was principle attorney in the firm’s representation of the city of His experience in commercial and business transactions and litigation is equally diverse. Mr. Mattioni is also active in the firm’s business, real estate and corporate practice, working with the business group in providing support in business counseling and problem solving. For example, Mr. Mattioni successfully defended an insurance company against a garnishment action by a holder of a $3.7 million personal injury judgment seeking payment under the insurer’s rental car coverage, resulting in a favorable settlement. In addition to his accomplishments as a litigator, Mr. Mattioni is a civic leader who has served in many charitable and civic programs, most notably as Chairman of the Chapel of the Four Chaplains. He served as a representative to the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention in 1967-68; Assistant District Attorney; Member of the Board of the Philadelphia Housing Authority; Member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay; Deputy Attorney General for the Eastern Region of Pennsylvania covering a nine county area; and on numerous boards and commissions. He has been a teacher, lecturer and author in such diverse fields as criminal, maritime, corporate, marine environmental and civil litigation and general trial practice subjects. He has received awards and recognition for professional achievement and service to the community, including “Man of the Year” by the Maritime Society of the Ports of Philadelphia, and the “Spirit of the Port Award” of the Seaman’s Church Institute.
